Star Trek Pregnancy Announcement

We’re Baaaaaack: Lots of Exciting News to Explain My Absence

Well howdy there.  Long time no see.  The past two and a half months have been quite eventful here.

First up, just in case you haven’t met your quota of geekiness for the day, may I present the following announcement:

Star Trek Pregnancy Announcement

.

Yep, our family is about to boldly go into the new territory of having three kids.

Three kids three and under.  We are trying not to hyperventilate too much over that last thought.

We are going to wait to find out the sex of the baby, but I have a gut instinct that this baby is going to be a relatively calm little girl.  It would be nice for Ana to have a little sister who is so close to her in age.  Both kids are really excited and like to talk to the baby throughout the day.  We are almost half-way through the second trimester!

This pregnancy has been a real bear.  Morning sickness worse than my first two pregnancies . . . combined, migraines at least once a week, and restless leg syndrome.  Unfortunately, this pregnancy also brought with it a recurrence of severe ante-natal depression and anxiety.  I feel like we are finally getting the situation under control, and my mood is much more stable now.

One of the main reasons I am doing much better is . . .

Nathan and I have started our own business together!

Queen Consulting and Technologies

Our business website is Queencontech.com

It has been so wonderful to be able to work together the past two months.  We have long dreamed about owning our own company together, and it has been very exciting to make this a reality.

In college, Nathan wrote his thesis on how the “traditional” model of the male as the sole breadwinner of the family, while the mother stayed home to take care of the children, is a recent phenomenon.  For most of human history, families worked together on the farm or in the workshop.

While we have only been doing this over the past two months, thus far it seems so much more balanced for Nathan and I to have the occupational sphere integrated into our family life together.  It gives me a chance to develop and exercise talents outside of childcare, as well as much needed intellectual stimulation and social interaction; it also means that Nathan has more flexible working hours and can be around for more family meals, or to connect with the kids for a few minutes during the day.

I have enjoyed learning how to write contracts, retainer agreements, invoices and most of all client meetings.   One of my favorite parts has been getting to see firsthand my husband’s talents in action, from his ability to engage with people to turning out top-notch proposals for various companies with diverse needs.

Another bonus is getting to meet and serve wonderful business owners in our community, whom we would not have otherwise encountered.  People seem to really appreciate that we are a husband-wife run small business.

We are still figuring out how to juggle the ins and outs of running a home based business with two toddlers and a challenging pregnancy thrown into the mix, but it has been worth every crazy minute.

So that is what is new in this neck of the woods.  Anybody have any tips for successfully juggling a home business and little one’s?  I would love to hear them!

Awesome!!! I am so happy for you and your growing family! I can’t say enough how impressed I am with you guys. I know it’s a lot of work…but it is worth it in the end. With God’s help, we are capable of doing more than we think. I will be praying for you all! God bless.

Congratulations! I’m so happy that we’re not the only family who all dressed up as TNG characters last Halloween! And that you’re having a baby, too. 😉 I will try to find the picture of our costumes…

My third pregnancy was a lot rougher than the first two also, but she has been such a good, sweet, easy baby. I think I’ve heard that from a lot of other moms too. Hope it’s true for you and you feel better soon!

Yay, for Geeky Halloween costumes! I would love to see pics!

We joke that each of our kids has picked up on elements of whatever version of Star Trek we were watching while I was pregnant. Sam is the TNG/ DS9 baby (the DS9 bit explains why he can be so tempermental, I guess), Ana is the Original Series/Voyager baby (she is sweet and easy to get along with). This baby is going to be the Enterprise baby, so we will have to see how that plays out, haha.

I hope your prediction is right, if the pattern holds with my first two the harder the pregnancy the easier the baby. I think my midwife corroborated what you said and said there is often a pattern with difficult pregnancies and easy babies.
