I would also add BOOKS to the list. Good marriage related books that address not only the sacramental side, but also practical everyday life and communication. A few that come to mind (and which I've given on one or more occasion) are Marriage: Big Steps, Small Rewards by Dr. Ray Guarendi, Theology of the Body for Beginners, The Catholic Marriage Manual (though now out of print), Men Are From Mars, Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.

My favorite wedding gifts were definitely all the books we got. Some of the above titles, as well as GK Chesterton's Brave New Family (a collection of essays related to the marriage vocation), family prayer books, and (if this counts as book...) empty photo albums.

Religious art is a great gift, too. I gave my husband a statue of St. Joseph for our wedding, and have since given something similar of the Holy Family to a family member for their wedding. I really appreciated all the art we got for our wedding (mostly religious art!) because I hadn't really thought about that aspect of our new home yet, having got caught up in the checklist of necessary things we needed to acquire to first make the place functional.

You had some really good suggestions here, though. I never would have thought of the papal blessing. Definitely going to look into that one!
